The principles behind the DMPT approach to personalised training, progress and long-term results.

Personal training should be personal.

At Dean Marchant Personal Training (DMPT), I believe that getting results isn’t about following the latest fitness trend, copying someone else’s workout or looking for a quick fix.

It’s about finding an approach that works for you.

Everyone is different. We have different goals, different starting points, different lifestyles and different reasons for wanting to improve our fitness. That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

With nearly 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, I’ve developed an approach based on four simple principles: personalisation, sustainable results, intelligent training and a holistic approach.

⸻

Personalisation First

Your goals. Your abilities. Your training.

The starting point for any DMPT programme is understanding you.

Whether your goal is to become stronger, improve your fitness, change your body composition, improve mobility, build confidence or simply feel better, your training should reflect what you want to achieve.

I consider your current fitness level, experience, lifestyle, preferences and the time you have available. From there, your training is designed around you and adapted as you progress.

There are no generic programmes simply because something worked for someone else.

Your training should fit you — not the other way around.

⸻

Sustainable Results

Fitness should become part of your life.

It’s easy to make dramatic changes for a few weeks. The real challenge is creating an approach that you can maintain for months and years.

At DMPT, the aim isn’t simply to get you to a short-term goal. It’s to help you develop the strength, fitness, confidence and habits that allow you to maintain your progress.

Training needs to work alongside your life — not take it over.

That’s why I focus on realistic, achievable and sustainable progress rather than quick fixes or unrealistic promises.

⸻

Intelligent Training

Every exercise should have a purpose.

Good training isn’t about doing as much as possible or making every workout exhausting.

It’s about knowing what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and how it contributes to your goals.

I use my experience to select exercises and training methods that are appropriate for you, then adjust and progress them as your ability develops.

Sometimes that means pushing you outside your comfort zone. Sometimes it means taking a step back and changing the approach.

Progress isn’t always about doing more. It’s about doing what you need to do.

⸻

A Holistic Approach

Training is only part of the picture.

Your results aren’t determined solely by what happens during a training session.

Recovery, nutrition, sleep, lifestyle, consistency and mindset can all influence how you feel and perform.

That’s why I aim to give you more than just a workout. Through coaching, guidance and accountability, I’ll help you understand the habits and choices that can support your training and overall wellbeing.

The goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to make better decisions outside of your sessions too.

⸻

The DMPT Process

Understand. Plan. Train. Progress.

01 — Understand

We start by understanding where you are now and what you want to achieve.

Your goals, experience, lifestyle, fitness level and any factors that may affect your training all help shape the approach.

02 — Plan

Once I understand what you want to achieve, we establish a training approach that’s realistic and appropriate for you.

Your programme is structured around your goals and designed to fit into your lifestyle.

03 — Train

This is where the work happens.

Whether you’re training 1-to-1, with a partner, in a small group or remotely through the DMPT app, you’ll receive guidance and support to help you train effectively and confidently.

04 — Progress

Your programme shouldn’t remain the same forever.

As you become stronger, fitter and more confident, your training can develop with you. We’ll review your progress and make adjustments where needed so you can continue moving forward.

⸻

More Than Just a Workout

Personal training isn’t simply about what happens during the time you spend exercising.

It’s about helping you become stronger, fitter and more confident in everyday life.

It’s about understanding how to train effectively, developing habits you can maintain and having someone there to provide guidance and accountability along the way.

That’s what I believe personal training should be.

Your Goals. Your Training. Your Journey.

No quick fixes. No generic programmes. No one-size-fits-all approach.

Just personalised training, expert guidance and the support to help you achieve results that last.
